day 4: the visit to coyoacan and the journey to guadalajara

11 Feb 2006 (Saturday)

We learnt from our mistake from the day before. Today, we started our day off with breakfast.

At the hotel coffee house. Omelette and refried beans, together with juice and coffee.

Alvin with said breakfast.

Oh, and we all decided to proudly wear the hats tt we bought from Plaza Garibaldi the night before, today.

Ben with hat.

Me with hat (I personally think *I* look better in it, tho. Wahaha *evil grin*).

And where the hats rest while we have breakfast.

Today we went to Coyoacan, which is in the southern region of Mexico City. Named after the coyote, Coyoacan is known for its Sunday markets and its historical value - i.e. as the place where Leon Trotsky was assasinated.

So bearing this in mind, we obviously had to go to the Leon Trotsky museum, which was located at the original location of Leon Trotsky's house where he lived and was murdered in.

And this my friends, is the mausoleum.

And from a picture on the wall...

A scene capturing the adoration tt people once held for Leon Trotsky, before Stalin came into power and exiled him.

And of course...

Nothing is complete without the requisite cafe cappucino.

From the Leon Trotsky museum, we walked to the Mercado Hidalgo, where they were having some sort of cultural display of Aztec tradition.

Which involved people dressed up (or down, more like) in traditional Aztec costume and dancing in time to the beat of the drums and rattles.

Most fascinating. But also the highlight of the market. There wasn't really anything tt we were looking for (earrings aside for me), and we ended up drinking mango frappacinos at the Starbucks at Plaza Coyoacan.

We went back to Centro Historico in time for dinner, and to change more pesos and collect our bags from the hotel.

And from there it was onward to the bus terminal, and to our 7 hour bus journey to Guadalajara.

We started at around 8.00pm, and reached Guadalajara around 3.15am.
